Remember Stargate and the cool lance that doubled as a missile launcher?
Surprisingly enough, this wasn’t as unheard of as you may assume (well, not the energy weapon but the combo of lance and gun). If you are looking for inspiration for an unusual weapon for your hero or heroine, I present to you the Boar Spear with Double Barrel Wheellock Pistol, currently in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Constructed c. 1575, the weapon is an 89 3/4 inch boar spear with two wheellock pistol barrels fused to both flat sides of the spear’s head. The intent of this design seems to have been to provide the wielder with the extra stopping power of two .41 caliber musket balls that could be fired at targets out of the reach of the spear.
Some sources posit that such weapons were instead experimental pieces or curiosities but seriously, how cool does it look?
It’s not the only example, either, as Pieter shows us. From axes to daggers, machetes, and yes, even crossbows, the possibilities are endless!
And for anyone doubting that the pen is mightier than the sword, how about a Bible with added firepower, presumably for persuasive purposes?
Very Cool! I love making up weapons and the more beautiful, the better.
Some of them do look pretty made up, don’t they? Some were probably ceremonial rather than used in battle. Either way, I hope they inspired you π
Amazing weapons. Much food for thought here.
And inspiration, I hope π
Fascinating. I’ve always been drawn to old weaponry π
Some of which is definitely prettier than others π
