Remember how I mentioned I’d been ghostwriting a book a while ago? Well, the book has been published and is now available on Amazon. Fear Begets Murder: A Conspiracy Tale was written with my childhood friend, Sam, who had the original idea and steered the writing in the direction he wished. I, on the other hand, was responsible for developing the story and, well, writing it.
As an experience, it was very interesting. What helped a lot was the fact that Sam and I go way back, so any creative differences were sorted out without any drama.
Even so, there were times when we were both frustrated by the process. Sometimes I was absorbed by other projects and took too long to finish writing. Other times, he was busy with other matters and was unable to offer vital feedback. And in some cases, we simply wanted to take the story in different directions.
Thankfully, compromises were found, helped by the fact that Sam is not just one of my best friends but also the sweetest guy on Earth. If I was doing this for a normal client, however, I might find the process much harder to handle. My main problem was taking myself out of the story and remembering it’s the client’s book; not mine.
