Regular readers know that most of my stories began as dreams and that I have included several of them in my science fiction series, Pearseus, as well. But I’m hardly the only one, as this Infographic by Sleep Advisor will show you.
From Mary Shelley to Stephen King, here are 11 famous books which started off as dreams… or nightmares.

Another fabulous infographic, Nicholas. It just goes to show there are no limits to where inspiration can come from.
How true! Thank you, Michelle ๐
Awesome info-graphic Nicholas. I keep writing down ideas when they pop into my head. Um…. not to … only trying to help.. in your paragraph you spelled Stephen King as Steven King. You might want to edit that part. ๐
Strewth! Thank you, Mary ๐
This post was so much fun! What is your opinion about opening a novel with a dream sequence?
They say you should never do it, as it’s considered a cliche. Unfortunately, I only heard that after Pearseus: Schism, which opens with such a scene, was published. I didn’t change it ๐
Thanks for your advice. I heard/read it is not often looked favorably upon, but I don’t know why… I will revisit this as I do the second pass and give it more consideration. There is always the idea to place it later in the book
No particular reason; just that they’ve been overdone, especially on TV. Makes some readers roll their eyes.
Really enjoyed this, Nicholas,
Pretty amazing what one comes up with when distracted, if thatโs the right word, by sleep, walking, eating ๐
Plus just reading how/why these creatives came up with such masterpieces is fun โ oops, I just got an idea – just kidding, but thought Iโd poke the muse ๐
Poke away! You never know what can happen ๐
True, I did feel an elbow rub back, lol! ๐
Eek ๐
I may have to write horror books if I write about my last few dreams!
See? Inspiration!
I once had a dream in which I was given a choice of two essay questions in an examination: One was solving simultaneous equations, the other was a single word ;Acer. I wrote a story on the second,( and woke after writing the last line) It became a whole book- yet to be polished or published. It’s a good story, and would make a brilliant film. All I need is time and self belief!
Oh, wow! You sure aced that test ๐
