With the coming of the new year, I realizedย I am now entering my fourth year of blogging. In this time, I have published some 800 posts. Some were more successful than others, of course, during my experiments with various formats and topics.
As I was looking back and wondering where to focus in the coming year, it occurred to me: who can better guide me than you – my dear friends and readers? So, please help me produce the kind of posts you most enjoy by answering the following simple questions.
Oh, and if you wish to add another category, just let me know in the comments!
I am interested in…
Many thanks in advance for taking the time to vote!
It’s hard to get a mix that works, Nick, but yours does, so it must be golden. Happy New Year, O Blogging Veteran! (I think anyone over 1 year is a blogging vet these days, no?!)
Thanks! It’s probably down to 6 months nowadays :b
Frankly, Nicholas, I’m happy for you to just do what you’re doing. I don’t read them all, but I don’t have time for them all – I have a life as well! Write about what you want to write about. You’ll enjoy the process, and that enjoyment will be picked up on by your readers. I’d rather watch a band who are having fun playing music, and I’d rather read a blog post that has been written for pleasure.
Nice way of putting it, Graeme. Thanks ๐
It seems my picks were all in the top percentile lol. Love your marketing, publishing, writing tips which I see majority of your readers do, and of course had to check off ‘just keep doing what you’re doing’ too, lol. Such great info on your blog, thank you. ๐
Aw you, thank you ๐
So welcome. ๐
So, I was going down the list, ticking them all, until I got to the bottom! ๐ … Maybe more cool and twisty historical stuff too. ๐
Lol – thanks, you’re a star! Historical stuff is probably my favorite, but it hasn’t fared that well in the poll. Hmm…
I read very few blogs due to not having a lot of time, but I read your posts as I find them interesting and informative.
High praise indeed! Thank you so much for that, Tiffee ๐
Lol, just keep on doing what your doing, Nicholas – I enjoy reading you posts, even the ones on writing tips, publishing, etc ๐
Thank you so much, Catherine! I sometimes worry about readers (as opposed to writers), that you’ll find the book marketing posts rather boring ๐
Lol, I don’t find them boring at all. Quite the opposite in fact – it gives me a perspective on the challanges authors face when trying to get their books published, not to mention getting your work noticed (and brought) by readers which of course is where sales and marketing comes in. Until readers are aware of the challenges authors face, they are destined to remain in ignorance. Hence I enjoy your site so much – it gives a balanced perspective on all angles – readers, writers, sales and marketing – plus the wonderful extras you give us about old maps, the way books were carried around in the middle ages, etc. So, keep up the good work, Nicholas ๐
*blush* ๐
I have ticked most of the boxes, as there is very little you do that has no appeal to me. Even the tips on things I don’t currently do, such as marketing a book, may well come in useful in the future. You have always been an interesting and informative blogger, and I have no doubt that you will remain so.
Best wishes, Pete.
Thank you so much, Pete! Much appreciated ๐
Just keep on doing what you’ve been doing. ๐
Thank you so much, Ernesto ๐
You know I’m a regular reader here:-)
You’re my ‘go to blog-guru’ Nick – anything you do ins golden! ๐
Wow, high praise indeed! Thank you so much, Jan ๐
Not sure if you did this a while back, but what about posts that talk about the inspiration behind and/or evolution of your own stories?
I’ve only done a handful of posts about this, mostly because I’m not sure how interesting this would be to my readers. I’ll add it to the poll, thanks for the suggestion.
You’re welcome. I’ve found that people like to see behind the curtain. Although, when you pose a question for what people want, they don’t really ask for it.
