Dedicated to my author friend, Helen Jones, the conclusion to my three-part bird special has to do with my getting into the role of dad. Obviously, a crucial part of the preparation is reading parenting comics. Some of the best I’ve come across are by Brian Gordon, a cartoonist who’s also a dad. This means he’s got plenty of inspiration for the parenting comics he creates for his website, Fowl Language.
Upworthy recently posted a fine selection, whence these great comics.
And my personal favorite:
If you enjoyed that, you may also enjoy this. Kinda late for Electra and me, but there you have it.
If you enjoyed these, be sure to also check out Kos og Kaos (Kos and Chaos), where I found this gem, among others:
Nothing like children to keep you on your toes and keeping it real!
Lol – yes, they do have a way to cut straight through the bull 🙂
That is an understatement! 😀
Hehe I love the Fowl Language comics!! I had an ad on his site to mine for a little while! crappypictures.com is another good one I think- not sure if she still updates, but she has a couple of books out.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check it out 🙂
Loved it!
My grandpa says that kids become a worry and really expensive when they are between 18 and 25.
Lol – I’m already dreading her teen years 😀
Kids, life was certainly easier before them but it wasn’t the same!! Love them to bits, trying little ….. !!!
Hear, hear 🙂
Oh dear. I couldn’t stop laughing. What a riot – because they’re all TRUE! Ha ha ha. As you go through this for the next 18 years, remember that it’s funny! 😀 😀
Erm, 18 years?!? Sigh…
At least…pretty much for the rest of your life. 🙂
LOL! I can relate to every one of these. But all kidding aside, parenthood is a fabulous ride,
It sure is 🙂
Ha, ha! Witty and realistic, let’s be honest. I have five children, I can say that.
Oh my! I’ve only got the one, and it’s already daunting 🙂
Fabulous, Nick! I can identify with so many of these!
Lol – as the mother of three, I have no doubt you can 🙂
???
And every word, true!!!
Lol – I’m afraid so 🙂
I see you’re right in the thick of it Nicolas. The one thing I remember was taking a nap with one of the kids and they pried my eyelid up and asked – is there anyone in there? It still makes me laugh.
Leslie
Ha ha – that’s hilarious 😀
Love those duck comics. There’s one that has a kid reacting to an itchy shirt tag like they’re about to die. Pretty funny parental memes out there too. Most seem to revolve around mothers and wine.
Lol – I do remember the shirt tag one. Brilliant stuff; I follow him on Facebook, so that I get his comics on my timeline. Priceless!
I’ll have to look him up and follow.
Brilliant collection!
Thanks! I, too, loved them 😀
I’m laughing so hard, my cats are looking at me funny. Too hilarious and yep, that’s kids for you. 😀 😀
Lol – so glad to hear you enjoyed this 😀
Still giggling…
Brilliant :D. That just about sums it up, although I stopped at No.2 and there were 5 years between each (No.1 — a noisy, hyperactive extrovert girl and No.2 — a quiet, thoughtful introvert boy!). I also instinctively knew what sex child each child was from early on in my pregnancies.
We did, too! The dialogue with the doc after the sonogram was so funny:
“- Us: Hey doc, are the results in?
– Doc: Yes.
– Us: It’s a girl, right?
– Doc: You want to know the sex?
– Us: Yes. But it’s a girl.
– Doc: It’s a girl.
– Us: You don’t say!”
For the last four weeks, we have had our one year old grandson living with us. I can personally vouch that everything in those cartoons is 100% true! Make the most of your lovely daughter for now, Nicholas. Once she can move, walk, and open cupboards, put her finger into plugs, and try to get into the TV, the real work begins!
Best wishes, Pete. (Hiding in the office…)
Lol – so I hear! I’m already dreading that stage… 😀
Very good! I can’t wait for my dedication 🙂
Lol – it’s a deal. I’ll dedicate tomorrow’s post (also about parenthood) to you 🙂
What a moment that is going to be for me 🙂
Very very humorous stuff Nicholas.Loved it all but especially the pregnancy Q & A.
Hugs
I know; it’s hilarious 😀
Hugs!
Lol – practically rolling on the floor – these cartoonists definitely have nailed parenting on the head. As a parent I have experienced frustration, overwhelming tiredness, wondered if I was doing a good job as a parent, etc. I can still remember my youngest daughter at the age of two looking up at me with her big blue eyes, a mop of blonde hair framing her face telling me very seriously she wasn’t naughty, she was a good girl. I had to run out of the room because I was on the verge of laughing at her – not a good idea when you’re trying to teach your children good behaviour! Funny thing is, parenting is the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life 😀
Aw, that is so sweet 😀
I’m only taking my first baby (literally) steps along the parenthood road, but I’m totally with you as to the rewarding part 🙂
