Visitors of this blog may remember that today is our anniversary. We went on our first date on October 3rd, 1992, and she’s been suffering life with me ever since.
This year we have something special to celebrate. For once, our latest project doesn’t involve books and computers, but a big belly and a strange creature growing inside. A baby Cthulhu, to judge by the sonogram. ETA is mid-December, so don’t be surprised if I disappear around that time. Baby Cthulhu will have gotten me…
Congratulations, Nicholas! Sorry I’m somehow a bit late getting to this piece. That’s great news! 🙂
Thanks! No worries, we’re still happy about it 🙂
Congratulations, Nicholas! I am so pleased for the both of you 😀
Thank you! 🙂
Reblogged this on theowlladyblog.
Congrats, Nicholas! How wonderful! @v@ <3
Thanks! And happy birthday to you 😀
Impending Rossis spawn! Congratulations. 😉
Yay! We’ve spawned! 😀
Indeed. 🙂
Congratulations. This is so amazing!!
Thank you! Yes, it is… 🙂
Congratulations on the naughty glitter in your and Electra’s eyes that branched out to be a future little tentacle/hooves creature (mirror images of you both), that will capture your hearts/minds/souls forever. What you perceive as ‘tentacles’ are 10 little dimpled fingers reaching out to type supersonic fast on her dad’s keyboard. May that little ‘hooves’ kick you so darn hard if you try to take her away from your computer. Soooo…daddy/mommy ohhh…you and Electra should start catching up on your sleep now (before the DOB) and you should start writing stories especially for her. So happy for you and Electra!!!
Lol – I’ll turn her into a coder yet! Or an author, if that fails 😀
Thank you 🙂
Congratulations to you both. What a wonderful, exciting, scary, life-altering, seismic thing, even if it’s ‘just’ a human baby, no tentacles and all.
Oh, all right, I’ll accept a normal human baby. Stop twisting my arm 🙂
Congratulations! Great news! I wonder how many parents look at the ultrasound of their forthcoming baby and wonder if they’re having an alien?
Hey, in my defense, that’s one terrible picture. She obviously takes after her old man 😀
Wonderful news! Congratulations.
Thank you 🙂
Oh, this lucky baby! Daddy is a storyteller! I assume @Nicholas in about one to two years we can expect you writing children’s stories. Too cool! CONGRATULATIONS to both of you. Wonderful times are ahead of you!
Lol – not only will I be writing more children’s stories, I’ll now have the opportunity to test-drive them, too!
Thank you 🙂
Congratulations. A baby is a wonderful and scary thing. My thoughts will be with you. Can’t imagine how difficult it will be to change a baby with tentacles. 🙂
Not to mention the wings. I just hope the tail is short, or we’ll never find the right size diapers!
Definitely hoofses and tentacles … kids gonna be so cool! 😀
Huge congratulations!!! 😀
Thanks! We’ve got Halloween covered, all right 😀
I would prefer something closer to the Family of the parents!!!!!
Lol – no worries there, Peter 😀
Lol – no worries there, Peter. She’ll be our little angel 😀
I assume her full name will be Cthulhu Dagon Rossis?
Ooh, Dagon! Love this! It was supposed to be Marie Natalie, but Cagon sounds so much cooler. Let me just run this by the missus and I’ll let you know how it goes!
Ooh, Dagon! Love this! It was supposed to be Marie Natalie, but Dagon sounds so much cooler. Let me just run this by the missus and I’ll let you know how it goes!
Looks like the two of you have waited a long time for this. Congratulations. May you have the healthiest baby ever, and may Electra have a very easy delivery, with no hooves creating excessive pain. We will all be expecting pictures once the clean-up is done. Please, do give the child a normal name. Lol.
Lol – she’s to be named Marie Natalie. I think that’s not too scary 🙂
It’s a deal. As soon as we welcome her, I’ll be sure to share some photos. Thank you 🙂
Nicholaki what Great news!!!! The baby is there live listens, understands, absorbs everything both of you do think or are involved too. Is the third equal part of your very own family. I like December Christmas like!!! Make the baby feel happy from now and start giving him/her the best experiences to keep for life. My best wishes!!!
Thank you so much, Peter! I had no idea you were following my blog 🙂
Yes, this Christmas should be… exciting 🙂
Congrats to you all, Nicholas! May you enjoy the wonder of the little one. Embrace the babe now, because when she turns 12, she won’t want to be seen with you, even if you are one of the cool kids 😉 Seriously, though, many good wishes to you!
Lol – I’ve heard of the terrible pre/teen years, and I’m already thinking up ideas on making myself even more of an embarrassment to her 😀
Congratulations. 🙂 A new life, with new promises… and tentacles, apparently. You reminded me of a Halloween special of The Simpsons with that comment, where baby Maggie turns out to be half alien. 🙂
I have to watch that!
It’s a good episode. Can’t remember what season it’s from, but it was a good few years back now.
Congratulations mate! Our first date was December 1985 and our eldest has just left home to go to university. Just the 16 year old to go and then we’re free… free I tell you!
Sorry. That may prejudice your upcoming years of joy.
It’ll be a blast.
Honest.
😉
Wow… You’re a regular Braveheart, aren’t you? 😀
OUT-s.t.an.d.i.n.g. Congratulations! 🙂
Thank you!! 🙂
YOU are welcome 🙂
Wow!! Congrats! That’s exciting.
I remember with our first, a nurse came in, grabbed our son, put him on his stomach and started patting his back. Apparently he was choking. Vic and I looked at each other like, “Oh no. We’re never going to be able to do this!” When we walked out the door, we felt very strange, like, “they’re letting us do this?”
Needless to say, both my kids are alive and happy.
You guys will be great parents! I can tell.
Ha ha – that’s such a sweet (and scary!) story. I’m sure we’ll be just like that. But thanks for the vote of confidence 😀
Now that’s just wonderful news! And I can’t be sure – I mean, I’m not an expert or anything – but having studied the photo, I think that might be a baby? Hopefully you’ll find out before December. Not that I’m telling you what to do or anything, but I’d imagine you’d want to prep for each option a little differently…
Yep. A cute cot, if it’s a baby. A nice human sacrifice for a Cthulhu. Very different needs, those two.
I’m not great on cute or cots, but give me a shout re the other option if required – I know a guy.
Does he do hooves, too? Looks hard to fit a shoe around one.
I’d be a bit wary of his interpretation of the word ‘do’, Nicholas, but sure, he’s never backed down from a challenge. Kid leather uppers, yeah?
Ha ha ha – you’re terrible!
Love it 😀
What better Christmas present than a child? Congrats to both of you. And PS, did you see a tentacle between the legs yet? 🙂
Ha ha – I’d be really scared if I had, as she’s a girl 🙂
Ohhhh, you already knew! Congrats again with daddy’s little girl! 🙂
Lol – I’m reminded of a baby T-shirt I saw the other day, that said, “I may be tiny, but I’ve got Daddy wrapped around my little finger” 😀
Ha, no doubts she will! 🙂 I hope you bought it. 🙂
Lol – how could I not? 😀
Congratulations! She does resemble a bird, doesn’t she? But then we all go through various stages of evolution before we’re born! And you could do worse than a bird! 😉
Ha ha – how true 😀
Thank you 🙂
Fantastic news Nicholas!!!!!!!!! I even looked up the chtula word and thought…whaaaat? Such wonderful news once I read the comments and learned it was a real baby!! I wonder who the little alien will look like? What great news!! Congratulations!
Ha ha – sorry for the scare 😀
Thanks 🙂
What is funny is that I saw a title of a book today with that word and knew what it was now! Thanks for adding it to my vocabulary!! Congrats again to both of you!
Lol – not only do you now know what it is, you’ve even seen a photo! Not many people can say that, you know 😀
So true!! Do you know if it is a boy or a girl cthulhu? 🙂
Oh, a girl. And she’s already got me wrapped around her tiny finger – erm, tentacle 🙂
That is wonderful news, Nicholas. I have the ultra sound picture of my little grandson as a book mark in my cook book.
Leslie
Aw, that’s so sweet! 🙂
I look at that picture and think of him. He is a dear sweet boy.
Leslie
Congratulations Nicholas and Electra, what fantastic news! Lots of love and best wishes from both Andy and me. Wow, life has a way of creeping up on you, especially at crossroads, doesn’t it? LOL! Enjoy the ride as I am sure you will 🙂
You have no idea… Thank you! *big hug*
Happy anniversary! And good luck with the alien. 😉 <3
So, it’s not just me, right??
Thank you, sis 🙂
Yay! So fun! Congratulations to you and Electra. You begin a whole new stage of life full of love and laughs as you help this little human grow. Nothing will be the same again. Um, yeah, we won’t see you quite as much, but I can’t wait for the stories. Rest up. You’re going to need it. Ha ha. Seriously…so happy for you both…all three.
Thank you so much, D! If only we could store sleep…
Ha ha. Just enjoy every moment, including the exhausted ones. Think of the wisdom you’ll gain and the stories you’ll be able to tell. 🙂
Absolutely! Plus, I’ll finally a captive audience for my stories 😀
Thank you for sharing your exciting news! Oh, the fun you will have sitting together and reading stories!
Yay! It’s one of the things I’m really looking forward to 🙂
How exciting. Being a father is one of the best things I ever did. Mine are grown now, but there are grandkids in the mix these days.
Aw, sweet! Thank you, Craig 🙂
Congratulations!
Thank you 🙂
It will be awesome…. Literally!
Aw, thanks 🙂
It makes perfect sense…after all, you wrote a great children’s book. Somehow, you knew ??? Many congrats to you. The adventure has just begun. Have no fear ! ☺ We had a baby 14 years after our first date..we needed the time, and it worked out well. ❤️
That’s so good to know! Thank you 🙂
Hahahaha! No comment. Congrats on your wonderful news! And in time for Christmas, too. How wonderful. Sigh.
Thank you! Why the sigh?
I love babies.
Aw, you 🙂
Congratulations to both of you on the beginning of a wonderful new story – and I’m sure it won’t be a Lovecraftian horror! 😉
So I’m told. Phew! 😀
Congrats. There’s a 3-D sonogram thing that we almost used. Or we might of, but the result was rather terrifying. So what do you get for a baby cthulu?
Erm, a knitted jacket for her wings?
Knitted from wool or souls?
Some fabric here… Some souls there… I’m sure we’ll figure it out in the end.
Depends on the price for each. Right now I’m guessing souls are cheaper if you buy them in bulk.
True. They’ve been on discount ever since iPhone was released.
Apple probably has a surplus.
They’re sitting on 200 billion of spare cash or something, so I’ll bet there’s a nice pile of souls somewhere as well.
They feed them to their machines. Ever wonder how Siri knows stuff?
You know, I was just reading an article about her. Your theory does explain a lot!
She’ll rule us all at some point. 🙂
One phone to rule them all…
How wonderful! There is nothing like having your first child, or second, or third… Congratulations to you and Electra!
Thank you, Michelle! 🙂
congrats to all of you!
Thank you 🙂
It won’t just be diapers that will be changed, your life will be changed. Congratulations on this new journey!
Lol – what a lovely way to put it. Thanks 🙂
It’s all been said already, but please accept my congratulations as well. And welcome to the world of parenting. The only advice I can give you is… don’t take any advice. Nothing anyone says now will prepare you for it anyway. It’s a complete roller coaster of a ride, and I’d be lying if I said there weren’t moments when you wondered why you’d done it. But it’s so worth it. Enjoy it all
That’s probably the most sage advice so far. Thank you 🙂
The similarity is amazing. Cetainly obvious that it’s yours.
Ha ha – thanks *phrbt*
(Sorry, just one of my tentacles hitting the keyboard)
Congratulations, Nicholas. Yes, definitely a baby Cthulhu! (That takes me back to my RPG days … ah, the nostalgia of it). I was born in December. Everybody grumbles about having to buy me two presents in one month, especially as my husband has the same birthday as me.
Thank you! Finally, someone who agrees with me 🙂
Ooh, sorry. I’m a cheapskate – especially since I heard what raising a child costs. I’ll just pretend she was born on the 25th, no matter what the actual date! :b
Oh, Nicholas, what great news! Congratulations and best wishes to you and Elektra xx
Thank you so much, Helen 🙂
Congos to you both Nick – they’re all water babies at this stage but I’m sure those little tentacles will turn out OK 😉
Phew, thanks for that! 😀
Congratulations to the both of you! 😀
Thank you! 🙂
Exciting (and scary) news, but huge congratulations to you and Electra. Your life is about to change in ways you could never comprehend…
Very best wishes, Pete.
So I hear. See why I say it’s scary? 🙂
Thank you, Pete 🙂
This is wonderful news, Daddy Nick! Congratulations, both! Cant wait to see pics of baby!
Same here 🙂
Forget any thought of ‘editing’. I can promise they don’t work, and I’m not even sure they improve the product. The creation ( for which you seem to have been highly congratulated) comes naturally. What follows is….well perhaps I should just let you rejoice for now ! Marvellous news- a new life- for all three of you!
Oh my – that does sound scary! Thanks 😀
Not meant to be scary, just the conclusions from someone who maybe tried much too hard! I can’t help thinking that you achieved this with Runaway Smile. I do believe writers create just as much as reflect. You must be very excited, and I am thrilled for you both.
Indeed we are 🙂
Many congratulations. 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
So it’s a baby right? Not some dystopian end game where we all end up grainy with pincers? Phew! Thank heavens and congrats. Believe me the creative part is easy, it’s the edits that follow delivery of that first draft that are endless, time consuming and bloody expensive… You’ll love it!
Ha ha – fair enough. At least I won’t have to deal with marketing 😀
Félicitations! Exciting times ahead. Enjoy!
Exciting… Bloody scary… Same thing, right? 🙂
What wonderful news! Exciting, scary, mind-blowing, heartwarming, life-changing, creative but most of all, LOVING.
Best of health to you all.
Aw, you! Thank you 🙂
My pleasure!
Oh, so many congratulations to both of you. But ….” we all know a tentacle when we see one, right? Not to mention those hooves” ….! these words will come back to haunts you if ever he/she reads them when a stroppy teenager Haha! Jx…
Ha ha – I’ll bet you are right 😀
That’s wonderful news. Congratulations!!!!!
Thanks! 🙂
Nicholas, that’s the most creative “baby” announcement I’ve ever read! Congratulations to you & Electra (and fur babies). Chryssa
H ha – thanks 😀
I’ve got fur baby #1 on my lap right now. Little does he suspect the horrors that await him, poor dear 🙂
Wow that’s so cool! Congrats to you both 🙂
Thank you! Cool… Scary… Same thing, right?
Mine are 12 and 10 so yes cool and scary. Mine now roll their eyes at me too lol! You’ll be fine 🙂
Ooh, the dreaded eye roll 😀
Congratulations, well done and deserved!
Thank you! 🙂
Awesome news!!!! Congradulations and best wishes to you and Electra 😀
Thank you so much, Catherine! 🙂
Couldn’t have been happier for the three of you!! Fantastic news! And she’s not Cthulhu! Tsk, tsk… Sci-fi writing men…
Hey, you saw the picture! The evidence is irrefutable.
It’s all in the eye of the beholder. Which brings me to my initial argument. Sci-fi writing men… Our last 3-D sonogram showed Sonia having distinct African American features. Doc said she was just smootching the inside of my belly, doing a duckface 🙂
Ha ha – if she’s already doing a duckface before even being born, I don’t want to know what she’ll be like once she gets her first mobile phone!
Congratulations, Nicholas!
Thank you! 🙂
Congratulations! How exciting!
And scary. Don’t forget scary 😀
True. But more exciting. Best wishes to all. 🙂
Congratulations on the upcoming hatchling!
Thank you! 🙂
