You may remember my post, Unusual Jobs Held by Famous Writers, courtesy of Unplag.com, anti-plagiarism online tools. They have now turned the post into a lovely infographic, and asked me to share with you.

These are just a few of the jobs mentioned in Unplag.com, so be sure to check out the original post for even more incredible jobs held by famous authors!
I love Jack London’s job as an oyster pirate. I am sure he had a story to tell with that!
Oh, you can bet on that 😀
Reblogged this on Books and More.
Every day I go to work I tell myself it’s all in the name of research. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I’m researching.
Something to do with tea, surely? Or is it wine?
Apparently not. I don’t think tea blenders or sommeliers wear suits to get beaten in public squares. I’ll have to go and research it.
Erm, I never knew that being a data analyst was so dangerous!
Depends on who, and in which industry, you’re working for…
If it weren’t for the pesky matter of the 4,000 km between us, I’d be buying you a glass of wine. Sounds like you need one 🙂
I always need wine, Nicholas. The only time I didn’t need wine, I’d already drunk 3 bottles of it.
VEry inspirational- if they can do all those odd jobs, and be a successful writer, then so can we!
My take, too 😀
If you do the math, it seems that being a janitor is the best motivation…seems to make sense that one would come up with the dark stuff. ☺ Very interesting post.
Thanks! I’m not sure I follow, though. Why is a janitor more motivated than an oyster pirate? 🙂
True that. But janitor comes up twice in your list above..both Kesey and King. And I’ve worked in the hotel industry…those housekeepers see stuff !! ☺
Damn, you’re right! I’d missed that 😀
No problem. And for inspiration…I’ve worked as a hand grenade assembler, a bakery raisin washer, and a sewing factory floor runner (aka call girl), among other things. There’s a book in there somewhere ! ☺
Are you kidding? They’re all pure gold 😀
*grumples* how come I’ve never had such cool jobs?
We were poor. Hard labor jobs were my motivation to do well in college. ☺
Believe me, I get it. While studying for my PhD, I paid the bills by doing four different things simultaneously (web design through Istomedia; consulted at a company; taught at Napier Uni and played the guitar and sang at Greek nights). Nothing half as cool as your jobs, though. Respect!
Thanks, and props to you for handling 4 at once. Determination goes a long way. ☺
Likewise! I mean, hand-grenades?? Strewth… 😀
Just for fun… https://vanbytheriver.wordpress.com/2015/06/13/summer-of-love/
Blimey! I thought it might be dangerous, but this… Thanks for sharing!
Enjoyed it, thanks for posting
Thank you, Gigi! 🙂
I enjoyed the previous post. This infographic is fabulous.
Thanks! I thought so, too 🙂
Inspiring! 🙂
Indeed! Goes to show you, we come from all sorts of backgrounds 🙂
🙂
We all have to start somewhere, Nicholas. Are writers born, or made from experience?
Best wishes, Pete.
A guest post well-worth publishing, for sure 😉
Fun info and I love the graphics!
They’re pretty awesome, aren’t they? 😀
Well, I’ve been a waitress in multiple pizzerias and cafés in Italy and Ireland, I worked in a swimming pool, in a steel factory, in a museum, and now I’m a bookseller… in case one day you’ll want to know 😉
*drooling* You had me at the pizzerias… 😀

So interesting!
My favorite has to be oyster pirate. Wonder where I can apply…
Skull-shaped island, third den from the right? 😀
I love the Oyster Pirate. I bet there are some good stories in there. Beat my most unusual job – singing waitress!
Oops typo – I meant “that beats my most unusual job.” I wasn’t issuing a challenge! Ha ha.
Ha ha – no problem. Anyway, oyster pirate beats them all… 😀
Lol – please, please tell me you’ve got videos 😀
I don’t think videos were invented yet! I only worked there 3 nights – the high heels hurt my feet. (It’s a long story).
I’d love to hear it, when you have the time 😀
BTW, I hate high heels and am convinced they were created by men who hate women. I don’t think Electra even owns a pair.
I don’t own them either. Silly things.
I always shake my head when I hear Westerners express their mortification at the cruel Chinese custom of foot binding. High heels are only marginally better, IMHO.
Great point (no pun intended).
Yep, at least 10″ long 😀
Weird jobs according to some. I’ve had/have many jobs one might consider weird. Guess I’m destined for more fame. 🙂
Yay fame 😀
Reblogged this on Routine Matters.
Excellent post. I love this sort of information. I’ll reblog this on Routine Matters. All the best. Kris.

Thanks for the reblog – it’s much appreciated 🙂
Great infographic and interesting info. It’s always cool to see where writers worked before creating their masterpieces.
Cool and surprising! 😀
Thanks and welcome 🙂
