Thanks to a particularly ill-timed stomach bug, I’ve spent most of the holidays, including Christmas, enjoying Electra’s lovely soups. Which is how I found out that Christmas dinner is not the same when you’re in bed with a bowl of hot minestrone instead of a turkey leg.
Still, there is a silver lining in everything. In this case, my mother kindly offered to point it out for me, in her own, inimitable style:
It’s probably for the best. You had been getting rather heavy lately. I just hope you don’t put back on those pounds right away.
This, from the woman who spent the best part of my childhood chasing me around with a half-full plate, trying to shove a fork into my mouth. Oh, the irony…
So, as 2014 is leaving not with a bang, but with (my) whimper, I can only wish you all a happy 2015!
Thank you all for making this year a most memorable one! Your love and support mean the world to me 🙂
Not pleasant to spend the Holidays sick!
I hope you are feeling better now Nicholas. Wishing you a fantastic 2015 😀
Thanks, you too! I’m fine now. Looks like it was designed by my body so that we stayed in and relaxed a bit 🙂
Ugh, hope you are feeling much better now! (I know all about Greek mothers too, lol).
But why do people always associate soup with illness? I happen to love soups! (French soups especially). And I don’t like turkey, at all. LOL
Hope the New Year brings you health and lots of good meals. 🙂
Hope you’re feeling better Nicholas! We have both had the flu here during the Christmas Holidays…not fun…seems like it is an epidemic here in the States…keep drinking that soup! Always works!
Yes sir (as if having a wife, a mom *and* MacJam wasn’t enough)! 😀
So sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather. Have a happy and healthy New Year. Now eat your soup!
Yes ma’am (as if having a wife *and* a mom wasn’t enough)! 😀
Hahaha!
Sorry to hear you were sick most of the holiday:( Hoping you feel better soon and have a wonderful new year! One of the highlights of my year was meeting you and so many other great authors here on WordPress!
Aw, that’s so sweet of you! Thank you! 🙂
Nicholas, having just started on WordPress and Google+, it’s been great getting to know a little bit about you. (From the sounds of your mother, she may be related to mine!) Anyway, thank you for the things you’ve shared this year, a few of which I was lucky enough to read. I look forward to another year of your posts.
P.S. At least you had soup. I had my lovely 20-lb Maine Coon for company, but she doesn’t have opposable thumbs and couldn’t even fetch me something to drink!
A very happy New Year and hope you are on the mend. Look forward to 2015.
As I was telling Wendy, I’m actually fine now and planning to paint the town red. Of course, we’re kinda snowed in, so our plans for tonight involve cartoons, freshly roasted chestnuts and champagne. 🙂
I hope 2015 brings you nothing but good health 🙂
Thank you Nicholas
Buon Anno, 🙂
Thank you Laura, and welcome! Have a great year yourself! 🙂
Grazie, 🙂
Meeting you and Electra has been one the most joyous times of my life. May you both have a great New Year.
Your friend,
Juliet
Thank you so much, Juliet! Meeting you was one of the best things that have happened in 2014. Thank you for your trust and support! 🙂
I hope the whole world reads your book in 2015 🙂
Hope you’re feeling better. Happy New Year!
Thanks! As I was telling Wendy, I’m actually fine now and planning to paint the town red. Of course, we’re kinda snowed in, so our plans for tonight involve cartoons, freshly roasted chestnuts and champagne. 🙂
Have a great one! 🙂
You’ll shake it off Rossi. It has been a pleasure to get to know you this year! Looking forward to another one. Happy New Year to both you and Electra 🙂
Lol – thanks. Already shaken off, actually. Good riddance, although I know those little buggers have a role to play, too. Oh well.
Hope you have a terrific new year! 🙂
Get well soon, Nicholas.
Happy New Year! 🙂
Thank you, Karen! As I was telling Wendy, I’m actually fine now and planning to paint the town red. Of course, we’re kinda snowed in, so our plans for tonight involve cartoons, freshly roasted chestnuts and champagne. 🙂
Hope you have a wonderful year 🙂
Only Mothers can get away with saying things like that. I hope you’re feeling better Nicholas, and Happy New Year!
Lol – how true! As I was telling Wendy, I’m actually fine now and planning to paint the town red. Of course, we’re kinda snowed in, so our plans for tonight involve cartoons, freshly roasted chestnuts and champagne. 🙂
Hope the new year fulfills all your wishes 🙂
Roasted chestnuts. Yum! We’ve got Chinese Food and a Three Stooges marathon 🙂
Not bad! Not bad at all! 🙂
You weren’t the only one who got given a virus for Christmas – I was laid-up too. Hope you make a swift recovery and enjoy good health and prosperity in 2015.
I’m so sorry! As I was telling Wendy, I’m actually fine now and planning to paint the town red. Of course, we’re kinda snowed in, so our plans for tonight involve cartoons, freshly roasted chestnuts and champagne. 🙂
Hope you have a lovely 2015 🙂
Sounds like a lovely evening! Enjoy 🙂
You too! 🙂
Mothers…what a hoot. Happy new year.
Bless them… 🙂
You too, Diane! Hope 2015 finds you a household name, as your excellent writing deserves. 🙂
Wishing you a very Happy New Year! Get well soon 🙂
Thank you, Helen! As I was telling Wendy, I’m actually fine now and planning to paint the town red. Of course, we’re kinda snowed in, so our plans for tonight involve cartoons, freshly roasted chestnuts and champagne. 🙂
Hope you have a great one!
Sounds lovely 🙂 I’m planning a quiet night myself, just me and my family. No snow here, though it is very frosty! Glad to hear you’re feeling better and hope you have a lovely evening 🙂
Get well soon.
Thanks! Don’t worry, the bug has been kicked out of this household. 🙂
I live such an isolated lifestyle that I worry about going to town and catching something. The flue is rampant here now. People will be out tonight drinking from rinsed not washed glasses and kissing strange lips. I’ll be keeping my head down and my ass up.
Sounds like a good plan! 🙂
Thank you for your friendship, your wonderful articles, and your sense of humour! I wish you and Electra good health, great success, and much happiness in 2015!
Thank you so much, John! Your joining the Board has been one of the highlights of 2014. Here’s to many happy returns! 🙂
A happy, healthy and successful New Year to you too, Nicolas!
You too, my kind friend! 🙂
Wishing you a wonderful 2015 Nicholas and soup only for good soup’s sake! 🙂
I’ll raise a glass to that tonight! 🙂
Thanks, Jo. I hope 2015 brings you nothing but success! 🙂
Have a happy new year and I hope you’ve kicked the bug to the curb.
Kicked its ass, I did (to quote Yoda). Thanks, buddy. You too 🙂
Salutations and best wishes for an exciting year ahead!
Thank you my dear! Not too exciting though, I’ve had enough excitement these past months living in Greece to last me a couple lifetimes… 😀
Hope you’re feeling better. Have a happy, healthy, and safe one. 🙂
Thank you! That’s a perfect wish, so all I can say is, you too! 🙂
Happy New Year to you! Hope you feel better soon 🙂
I’m already back on my feet and planning to paint the town red. Of course, we’re kinda snowed in, so our plans for tonight involve cartoons, freshly roasted chestnuts and champagne. 🙂
I hope 2015 brings you nothing but fun! 🙂
Only the best and much success for you and Electra, Nicholas! The bug struck in 2014, so it won’t visit again in 2015 🙂
It’d better not! 😀
You too, love. I hope you manage to get some rest in 2015 🙂
Sorry for your illness, Nicholas. I wish you all the very best and continued success for the new year 🙂
You too, buddy! I hope 2015 brings you nothing but success 🙂
Nicholas, I hope you feel much better soon. Your mother was just being, well, a mother. Look to a mom to tell you what they think no matter what. How fortunate to have a wife who makes those delicious soups. Have a great New Year 2015! May your dreams come true also. 🙂 — Suzanne
Lol – thanks! 🙂
I hope 2015 brings you nothing but joy. 🙂
A Happy New Year to you!
You too, Rajov! Many thanks for reading my blog 🙂
I’m with ya, just a different bug. Get well soon and here’s to a fruitful 2015!
I’ll drink to that! Thanks! 😀
May 2015 bring you nothing but good cheer 🙂
I wish you a prosperous life 🙂
Thank you, Semra! I hope the new year brings you nothing but beauty and happiness 🙂
