Upon thinking about it, I do a lot with eyes in my books (the ones with human characters, that is – although even the fixed insectile eyes of termite Alates can express certain things). In The Termite Queen, my heroine has green eyes that she inherited from her Irish grandmother, while the hero has blue with striking dark lashes – it’s only one of the things about Griffen that attracts women. And in my WIP The Man Who Found Birds among the Stars, the hero has dark brown Spanish eyes, while his love interest (or obsession) has eyes with a lot of mixed colors – brown, green, and especially gold – and the hero’s mother by contrast has silver eyes. One thing you have to be careful about is the genetics. Two blue-eyed parents (there may be unexplained exceptions) can’t have a brown eyed child.
I, too, use eyes a lot, although I don’t dwell into colours. Perhaps I should pay more attention to them. Thanks for the tip! 🙂
