Leeland Artra recently posted over at the FSFN group on Facebook a link to a list by Book Marketing Services, containing no less than 205 Author Hashtags to use on Google+, Twitter, Facebook etc. In short, you can use these hashtags to easily connect with other authors and/or readers on any social media platform. Since I added a couple of dozens more, they’re now 233!
How to use them
Hashtags are words or acronyms that serve like clusters, by allowing people with common interests to easily search for them. Some are rather esoteric, like #FF meaning #FollowFriday. This is commonly used on Twitter to suggest each Friday the people that have proven supportive in the previous week, therefore others may also benefit from following them.
Other hashtags explain what you’re doing (eg #AmWriting) or what you’re promoting (eg #FreeBook). This list allows you to select the most suitable, therefore effective, hashtag for each occasion.
How About an Example?
Let’s say, for example, that you’re a writer of Flash Fiction, promoting your latest work.
You might do so with the following post/tweet:
“Check out my latest work on [link]”
This has the disadvantage that only your followers will see it. Anyone interested in Flash Fiction will have no way of knowing your post/tweet may be of interest to them. Therefore, you might say instead:
“Check out my latest #Flash #Fiction work on [link]”
Better! However, by consulting the list we notice that the majority of people interested in Flash Fiction use the hashtag #FlashFic instead. Oops! Let’s make that perfect, then:
“Check out my latest #FlashFic work on [link]”
Perfect!
Also, there are groups that will retweet you if you follow them. Adding their hashtag or handle at the end of your tweet ensures it will be RT’d to the widest audience possible. Although these are not always hashtags, I’m including them here, as they serve much the same purpose.
Good, now that you’ve got the hang of it, why not bookmark this page (or the Book Marketing Services one, for that matter) so you can refer to it in the future?

Some great tips on using Twitter.
Great information, Nicholas! As always!
Not sure if I will ever be able to use Twitter with results!
Only if I could hire someone to do this, Ahhh 🙂
Lol – so many tips, so little time 😀
I am starting to use these tags and they do exposure you to new groups and retweets.
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing – and welcome 🙂
You missed the @eroticauthorrtg and the #eartg – surprising oversights
Thanks and welcome! There’s a simple reason for that; these are oriented to fantasy writers rather than erotica ones, as I’m unfamiliar with the genre. 🙂
Another post to bookmark! Thanks again, Nicholas! 🙂
Thanks, Lori! Glad you found it useful 🙂

Helpful Hints About Hashtags For Authors
Fabulous! Thanks for making it so simple by collecting them all in one place 😀
Have just added the link to the ‘Writer’s Resources’ page on my blog.
That’s wonderful, thank you so much! 🙂
People, the link is https://deborahjayauthor.com/writers-resources/ and you will find some great resources there!
Cheers!
Excellent list! Thank you!
So glad you found it useful! Thank you and welcome! 🙂
I opened a Twitter account a while ago, but I’ve got to say, I didn’t really understand how it could prove useful. However, I’ll give these tips a try. Cheers!
Thanks and welcome! 🙂
Twitter works wonders by helping you spread the word. Say, for example, you blog about something. By tweeting about it, too, you immediately reach fr more people than you would otherwise.
A great book to read on the subject is Twitter for Writers by Rayne Hall (https://www.amazon.com/Twitter-Writers-Craft-Rayne-Hall-ebook/dp/B00KUCPG6G)
Great, thanks for the recommendation.
So much to remember!! No wonder my brain is on the fritz!! Very helpful though 😀
I believe the military term for my brain is FUBAR! 😀
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Question: Does capitalization matter? For example, #amwriting vs. #AmWriting?
Sorry for the late reply. No, capitalization does not matter. In geek-speak, tags are case-insensitive.

Today, I am sharing with you all a very useful list of Twitter groups and hashtags for every occasion! (posted originally on the blog of Nicholas Rossis). Unmissable!
I use #IARTG, #BYNR and #ASMSG mostly when it comes to groups. I combine them in the same tweet even. I seem to get the most RTs from the first one, and sometimes immediately too. IARTG are the best! IAN1 for some reason tend to ignore me so I don’t use them much. Thank you for sharing this list! There are loads of hashtags I wasn’t aware of for free promo! This post just begs for a reblog and I’ll be happy to spread the word 🙂
Thank you for sharing your experience with the tags! And many thanks for the reblog!

I’m thinking of giving away “comment of the year” awards. This one is definitely among the shortlisted! 😀
Mwah hahahargh! Glad it made you laugh.
This is fantastic. I struggle with hashtags. Maybe I’ll finally start using them.
Maybe I will, too! 😀
Great article. Will be reblogging at some point. 🙂
Thanks, I’ll be looking forward to that! 🙂

Here’s a few, well a lot, of hashtags anyone on twitter will find useful. Nicholas C Rossis did a great job of collecting them all.
That’s a lot of hashtags, lol. Must have taken you ages to list them all but thanks for doing that. 🙂
Thanks! Actually, I only added a few and cleaned the list up a bit, to make it more relevant. It’s the Book Marketing people you should thank, along with Leeland for posting about the list. Not that I don’t appreciate the kind words, of course! 🙂

Booksters…more great hashtags to check out to help you with sharing your tweets. Thank you Nicholas C. Rossis.
I came this way via sknicholl’s blog. This is a great list. Thank you for compiling it. I’ve bookmarked it for future reference. I’m not always so great with hashtags.
Same here! Thanks for visiting and a warm welcome 🙂

Fabulous #guide to #hashtags for #authors for #marketing!
One of these days I’m going to understand Twitter. 🙂 Lots of helpful information, I’m sure.
It works really well when combined with the rest of your social media. For example, I have set up my blog so that every new post is automatically tweeted. This allows me to notify people, thus inviting them to read my blog. Hopefully they’ll like what they see and stay. 🙂
I have FB and LinkedIn and a Twitter account but haven’t used the latter yet. Can’t remember my password. 😀 😀
Will make time one of these days to clear that up. Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. 😉
Hashtags can be useful and a little rough. That 140 character limit always makes things a challenge. You lose some to the sales link and then you have to figure out something catchy that can include the hashtags. Seems to get harder the further I get into a series too.
I’m still struggling with them. Thankfully, sometimes people help: The Rave Reviews Book Club has quietly dropped #RaveReviewsBookClub in favour of #RRBC.
I use #IAN1 and #IARTG. At the very least I try to get #fantasy in there. Sometimes things like #dragons, #vampires, and #magic help. Doesn’t hurt to switch things up.
Thanks for the tip! 🙂
Is it considered poor form to include both IAN1 and #IARTG in a single tweet?
Not to my knowledge. The more group tags you use, the more retweets. I don’t think there’s much of a competition between the serious ones.
Good to know, thanks! 🙂
