I usually get some 300-400 views on my posts. There were some exceptions, though. A couple of times, I had a few thousand views out of nowhere. Or, at least, that’s what it looked like. After a brief examination, I realized the extra visitors had come courtesy of StumbleUpon.
Which is why I was sad to hear that, after 16 years, StumbleUpon shut down on June 30, 2018.
Before posts and tweets, before snaps and pins, StumbleUpon was providing endless internet entertainment with just the push of a button. In its 16 years, it served up nearly 60 billion stumbles to over 40 million Stumblers, and infinite hours of “woah, cool” moments.
Welcome Mix
However, there is a silver lining. The people behind StumbleUpon, have started up Mix! On Mix, people can build shareable collections of their favorite finds across the internet: articles, videos, podcasts, and more. As you curate the web, your saves will turn into meaningful recommendations for others in Mix.
And for those of us feeling nostalgic, we can always take a journey back in time with StumbleUpon Time Machine on Mix!
They need to get their act together at Mix. I’m not bothering. They sent out an email a month ago, warning they were closing (SU) and offering to move our posts to Mix. They are so disorganized. 20 emails later and still never moved my stuff. This and that didn’t work. And finally the last day came and they still hadn’t helped me move over. (Their links were useless that they sent me.) Suffice it to say, I have enough going on and not going to start from scratch again. Enjoy! 🙂
Wow! Thanks for sharing your experience, D. I’m sure it will help others.
Happy to share Nicholas. 🙂
Experienced the same problems so couldn’t agree more. Hope with time Mix will get its game in order 🙂
Thanks for sharing that!
Thanks! Good to know I”m not alone LOL 🙂
Happened the same thing to me. I did everything they adviced to do, but what they expected to happen, didn’t happened (they sent me a link that never ended up where it should) and when the last day came and my SU (with over 5000 links) didn’t move, they just said, ooops, sorry, chance’s gone.
Didn’t look good to me.
Anyway, I’m now trying to build my Mix presence as I did my SU precence. Let’s see whether once I have many links there, it will generate the same kind of traffic.
wow, now you’re the 3rd one here with the same story. One would thing they would have got their act together before giving deadlines where all will be lost. I don’t like sloppy business practice so I’m not going to bother. I have enough social sites to babysit anyway 🙂
Good grief… Thanks for sharing that, Sarah!
I never used Stumbleupon, or knew much about it, but I am sorry to see a much-loved platform have to close.
Best wishes, Pete.
I know. Makes me feel old 🙂
I know. The news bummed me out, too. Loved SU.
At least, they’re continuing with Mix. Still, it’s sad.
Thanks for the update.
Thank you, Elle 🙂
