Update: Here are 9 more of these delightfully creepy two-sentence horrors, found on Imgur! I also managed to track down what appears to be the original reddit post.
I found this brilliant exercise in lean writing on 9gag. It’s 20 two-sentence horror stories, each promising to send a shiver up and down your spine. Enjoy!
These are so much fun! I think I’ll start texting ones I make up to my sister at night.
Lol – that’s so evil 😀
So creepy! They made me gasp, some of them. Brilliant. I wish I could think of one to add, but I’m too freaked out 🙂
Lol – give it time 😀
Here’s one: While visiting India they told me that I couldn’t eat beef because cows were sacred. They didn’t say anything about people, though…
Lol – that’s an excellent one! 😀
I don’t know why, but I’ve always found horror books and movies funny. (When I was seven, my sister and I gave ourselves away by laughing too hard while hiding behind the couch to watch The Exorcist after the babysitter had put us to bed. I think it was the projectile vomit scene that eventually gave us away. >:D
Ew 😀
My parents took me as a young ‘un to watch Godzilla. They were afraid it would freak me out, give me nightmares etc. Apparently, I spent the whole movie giggling like a schoolgirl every time the monster was on screen.
All of these were brilliant.
I know, right??
Thanks for the comment and welcome! 🙂
I’m alone at the moment, on the 6th floor of a building that gets extra noisy when it’s windy- as in you could shoot a horror movie here without using sound effects. Maybe that’s why the stories felt spookier:)
Hi Pinar, great to see you here! I’m an avid follower of your Addicted to Writing blog (https://writing.pinartarhan.com/ for anyone who hasn’t heard of it; you must check it out).
I hope at least that it was morning when you read the stories. Round about midnight might not be such a good a time for that… 🙂
I’m glad it was morning too:) And thanks for the lovely words on my blog:)
man, these are majorly creepy.
I read these early this morning while the dog was getting sick in the back yard. I told her to come inside quick! These were fun.
I just hope the dog didn’t get sick reading the stories! 🙂
Oh, no, she’d already managed to ingest something that didn’t agree with her but she picked the dark-before-the-dawn to go out and find the perfect spot to deal with it. It lent more than enough atmosphere to your blog post. There was lots of rustling coming from the giant vine back there….
Awesome!

These little vignettes are amazing!
I’m so glad you like them, Kev! 🙂 There are some more on the “6-word flash sci-fi stories” post – https://nicholasrossis.me/2014/03/12/6-word-flash-sci-fi-stories/
Thanks for that. 🙂
Oh my god! these are brilliant! And the one about the cat staring, heyup!? lol These are wonderful vignettes! I can’t say enough, don’t know what to say, I love ’em! 😀
My cat does that all the time. Should I be worried?
I would 😀
Err… No. 😀
Not even if she’s black with yellow eyes?
That’s spooky 😀
Actually, it’s supposed to be good luck to own a black cat. https://fullcirclenews.blogspot.ca/2007/08/black-cats.html
A lovely post! As you know, we’re owned by one dog and two cats, all of whom came from shelters or the streets. There used to be a black cat in the mix, as well – a lovely creature, with the warmest, friendliest personality and the silkiest of furs. Sadly, he died of kidney failure a few years ago. Perro then took his place.
OOOOH creepy. Loved the one about the kid on the bed…..must remember to check under mine tonight – just in case – yikes 🙂 Thanks for sharing Nicholas, that was ace!
I know, right? I’m only sorry that I don’t know the authors of these, to credit them properly.
